BIO

The law firm of K. Catherine Albano began in October of 2015, after nine years at Parker, McElwain & Jacobs, focusing on family law cases with a concentration in custody and visitation litigation. From the inception of my practice, it has been a gratifying experience to have my work represent my values and principles, from the selection of clients to the conscientious pursuit of the desired outcome. It is a privilege and honor to be able to offer my services to the community of Charlottesville and surrounding counties.

I was licensed to practice law in New York in 1983, after graduating from Fordham Law School. I began my career in Admiralty law in a Wall Street firm and it was there, amid the shipping and cargo cases, where the opportunity to serve clients in their personal lives unexpectedly fell in my lap. There was no denying my immediate connection with the cases that focused on people’s every- day lives, whether it was a conservatorship case or wills and estate case or divorce matter.

After moving out of the city and starting my own family, I handled small business and domestic relations cases as partner in Albano & Albano, PC in Millbrook, NY until relocating to Virginia. It was shortly after my family settled in the Charlottesville area that I pursued my interest in mediation and child advocacy. I became a court certified mediator in 1994 and worked extensively as a mediator for the local courts as well as in my private practice. In 2004 I became licensed to practice law in Virginia and became a certified Guardian ad litem for children.

Prior to law school, I received my B.A. from Wellesley College in 1978, where my interest in law was first kindled. I attended the Waldorf School of Garden City, NY from pre-school through 12th grade, and was raised in a very close-knit Greek family. The combination of my family experience and Waldorf education laid the foundation for my interest in families and my desire to help people.
